At work, they just relocated our whole department to a new area. This new area is a big, oddly shaped room. There is a good half of the room, and a bad half. I am in the bad half. I have one of the worst seats in the room. I am very unhappy about it. I could rattle some cages in an attempt to get a better spot, but I have already been a squeaky wheel this week about something more important. I don’t want to gain a reputation as a complete pain in the ass, so I am going to just have to deal with it for now.
I am, however, glad that I have a job.

My sister had her baby yesterday, January 12th. Her name is Pauline. Here she is with her daddy. Isn’t she beautiful?

Here’s a new “speed painting”. Speed Painting is in quotes because I actually spent quite a while on this. How long? I started it in early September ‘08. What can I say? I got busy. Going back to work slows down my productivity. If I do more speed paintings in the future, I’ll really have to limit myself to one session. Here’s the original photograph:

I’m not sure how to give credit for this photo, but I’ll do my best. I found this photo on Flickr, here. To the photographer who took this photo: Nice work!
Here’s a progression:

That’s all I have for now. Let’s hope my next artwork doesn’t take quite so long.
I’m back from the holidays and I’ve just completed my first week of work for the new year. The holidays were, as always, a whirlwind of activity. I got lots of lovely gifts for christmas. I think I mentioned the painting book my brother-in-law got me (merci!) I also got a very cool coffee mug called a handwarmer mug. You can see a few photos of what they look like here. I like the mug a lot; I save it for my weekend coffee drinking so that I can enjoy my coffee, and the mug. I also got a very nice glass pendant from Italy from my in-laws. I am looking forward to wearing it; I just need to find a gold chain to wear with it.
Speaking of glass, we visited the Corning Museum of Glass while we were in NY. It’s only an hour from where I grew up, and it has made me want to try glassblowing. It’s amazing what can be done with glass! I particularly enjoyed all of the hot glass shows. If you’re ever in Upstate NY, this is one place I can highly recommend visiting.
Another museum we visited over the holidays was the De Young museum here in San Francisco. They have a great collection of Hudson River School painters. We particularly enjoyed this painting, Twilight, by Frederic Edwin Church. I also like this portrait by John Singer Sargent. We visited the museum with Nowell and Sadie, who are both talented artists in their own right. It’s very enjoyable to visit a museum with people who are interested in talking about the artwork.
I’m kind of at an impasse with my own artwork. I’m not sure what I want to do or where I want to go next. I have some ideas, but for now I’m going to just let those ideas gestate until something comes about.
